The Julian Alps of North West Slovenia offer outstanding mountain scenery, a famous winter destination with great skiing options, the area also has an abundance of accessible, good value outdoor activities on offer throughout the rest of the year including hiking, road and mountain biking, golf, canyoning, climbing, paragliding, white-water rafting and world-class fly fishing, making it one of Europe's leading destinations for outdoor enthusiasts.

Whilst there is a huge amount on offer for hardened adrenaline junkies, you don't have to be a pro to give it a go! If you are in Slovenia then it would be a shame not to get out into the great outdoors and take in one of Europe's most unspoilt and beautiful natural environments.

More Summer Activities


The nearest paragliding point is at the triple borders of Italy, Austria & Slovenia on the Austrian side which is reached via the small town of Arnoldstein to Dreilaendereck (which means triple border in German).


The upper Sava River in Kranjska Gora as well as the Pisnica and Bistrica rivers are small but beautiful and offer excellent flyfishing.

There are a huge number of possibilities for beautiful riding trips in the region. The riding club in Žirovnica is a good place to go.



The Sava River near Radovljica and the Sava Bohinjka running between Bled and Bohinj have some relatively gentle rapids, ideal for beginners.

There are also many lakes nearby which provide wonderful venues for still water paddling. For more info on lakes in the region click here.


Apart from kayaking and rafting there is another way to explore the amazing rivers - Sava and Soča - and gorges close to Kranjska Gora, canyoninng - perfect for those that like to experience nature with a healthy dose of excitement and adrenaline. Local experienced guides with all the equipment run canyoning adventures which will see you leaping into rock pools, sliding down natural slidess and absailling through wateerfalls. 


With impressive mountains on either side of the Upper Sava Valley it is no surprise that there are some excellent climbs to try out in the area not least the epic north face of Triglav. There are a range of climbs in the area to suit climbers of all ability, whilst experienced guides share local knowledge.

If you are a fan of ski jumping and always wanted to experience the feeling of flying, then this is your chance. The steepest zip line descent on the largest ski jump in the world is now open in Planica. Are you ready for the most exciting ride of your life?

Swimming and Spas


A number of Kranjska Gora's hotels have swimming pools. The Ramada Resort offers excellent facilites that incorporate a wellness centre, kids pool and swimming pool with great views of the pistes. The Kompas Hotel has an indoor swimming pool and a seperate kids pool with slide. Hotel Lek boasts a swimming pool and whirlpool. Hotel Spik offers a counter current pool for active swimmers and also a kids pool with playground equipment.

lake jasna During summer there are also a number of natural swimming spots nearby particularly to the north in the Carinthia lake district known as Austria's Riviera. Lake Jasna, a mere Km from karnjska Gora ski resort offers the perfect natural swimming pool complete with diving platform. There is now even a bar for much needed refreshment in the hot summer months. There are excellent spa facilities at the Ramada Resort in Kranjska Gora and Hotel Špik in Gozd Martuljek 5 minutes from Kranjska Gora.

Summer Park and Toboggan

In need of an adrenalin fix? When the ski season ends the Kranjska Gora Summer Park with Mountain Bike Park is a extreme fun attraction. Take the Vitranc 1 chair lift to the top of the park and then choose how to make your daring descent - there is the wild downhill mountain bike trails with there jumps and obstacles - or the 'Furious Pehta' Summer Taboggan - where the 1,500 metre ride to the bottom can be either daring or smooth. Then nearby the summer toboggan run and the Bike Park is the Bedančeva drča chute offering a more kiddy friendly air cushion ride - descend a 70 metre slide.
